Adult/Couples Only?: No. This is a family-friendly resort hotel.
Time of Year/Weather: This trip was taken in April 2004. The weather was sunny and hot, with cooler evenings.
Length of Trip?: 4 days/4 nights
Was this an All-Inclusive Resort?: No
Approximate per person cost?:
Describe room accommodations (view, decor, cleanliness, etc.): Very clean and comfortable. Nice view. Plenty of room with a king-sized bed, sofa and desk with chair. Decent-sized bathroom, not big but not too small.
Describe food/meals (presentation, quality, etc.): The Flamingo has 4 restaurants, a wonderfully yummy and huge buffet (not to be missed), a Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, various bars and lounges, coffee shops, and a beach grill by the pool.
We mostly ate at the buffet but the menus of the other restaurants looked fabulous. You have to eat at least one meal at the Paradise Garden Buffet. Besides having a wide variety of foods and desserts the restaurant has a fabulous view of the wildlife habitat. You can watch the animals and the various waterfalls while you eat. The line into the buffet can look long but it actually moves rather quickly. Suggestion: If you aren't eating breakfast at the buffet, arrive about 30 minutes before the meal you wish to eat (lunch or dinner). That way you can get the lower price (i.e. dinner at the lunch price). Great money-saving tip...and isn't Vegas all about saving money to spend later?
Describe staff and service: Friendly and helpful, however we didn't have much interaction with the staff like you would at an all-inclusive resort.
Onsite Activities: Casino, 4 Pools and 2 Hot Tubs, Wildlife Habitat, Spa & Fitness Center, Tennis Courts, Hair Salon, Wedding Chapel, Shopping, Live Entertainment including Vegas' only topless afternoon revue and The Second City Improv.
Offsite Activities: It's Las Vegas! You are only limited by your imagination.
Local Points of Interest: Casinos, more casinos, even more casinos. You can also take a day trip to Hoover Dam
Value for the cost?: Good. The Flamingo offers nice accomodations for a mid-range price. You can visit Vegas inexpensively or spend a lot of money. It just depends on what you chose to do while visiting.
Overall Rating (10 being best)?: 8
Additional Comments: I would stay at the Flamingo again. Prior to visiting I had read many reports that were somewhat negative but I found them to be unfounded. The Flamingo may be one of the older resorts but it is well-kept and doesn't look it's age. I didn't really care much for the casino area and didn't have muck luck at their tables or slots. Definitely get a Player's Club card at each casino and don't feel you have to play at the Flamingo's casino just because you are staying there. Get out and see the other resorts and hotels.
